Experience the Pittsburgh Community in a New and Exciting Way

I’ve run a marathon every year for the past nine years, but nothing beats the atmosphere and sense of community pride experienced when running through the 14 different and unique neighborhoods featured in the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon.

Joining the FedEx Ground Pittsburgh Corporate Challenge was a perfect fit for Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania. As a local natural gas utility, Columbia Gas is dedicated to not only encouraging the health and vitality of our employees, but also the communities we serve.

For the past several years, Columbia Gas employees have joined together to create FedEx Ground Pittsburgh Marathon Relay teams in support of local charities through the Run for a Reason Charity Program presented by Bank of America. Each year, teams of five employees choose from a list of official charities to fundraise for during the marathon training season. The relay experience allows employees to inspire, motivate, and hold each other accountable throughout the weeks and months leading up to the race, creating a sense of comradery.

Seeing such employee engagement through the Run for a Reason Charity Program, Columbia Gas opted to join the Corporate Challenge as well, expanding the opportunity for employees to take on greater challenges and longer running distances through participation in any of the 2019 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon events. The Corporate Challenge provides structure and encourages safe and effective training through free personalized plans, invitations to seminars and group runs.

As a marathon runner who has run the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon twice, I am encouraging my fellow employees to step out of their comfort zone and take on the challenge of running through the Corporate Challenge. I am excited for our employees at to achieve and experience the communities where they work, live and play in a new and exciting way.

Sarah Perry is the Community Engagement Manager at Columbia Gas, one of Pennsylvania’s leading energy companies.
