The 12-week training season for the UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon will officially kick off on Saturday, February 9, 2019 with the FREE annual Half Marathon Kickoff Training Run hosted by P3R and the Steel City Road Runners. Held at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex - 3200 South Water Street Pittsburgh, this event is for all runners — whether you're a longtime marathoner or training for the first time. You do NOT need to be registered for a 2019 DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend event to participate in this training run.
Steel City Road Runners will lead training runs of several distances (4, 6, 9 and 12 miles) at various pace options. There will also be a 5-mile option for those following the Galloway Training Program.
After your run, post-race refreshments will be available. Refuel with bananas, Honey Stinger gels, NuGo bars, water and Nuun Hydration.
7:00 AM — Check-in begins
8:15 AM — Dynamic warm-up
8:30 AM — Run begins
Please note, there is very limited parking at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. Additional parking can be found in any of the Southside Works surface parking lots or garages, with a short warm-up walk over to the facility. There will be signs and volunteers helping direct people. Southside Works parking information can be found here.
P3R has partnered with Zwift to offer a FREE virtual training program that gamifies your experience and connects you with other runners from all over the world. Now even when you are running solo on your treadmill, you can join real-life training partners who can keep you motivated and help you stick to your training plan.
Pick up a FREE Zwift RunPod (valued at $29.99) at the training run by simply showing the Zwift team the app on your phone or your confirmation email. Not yet signed up? Click here to get started.
Specials thanks to UPMC Sports Medicine, UPMC Health Plan, Brooks Running, Blue Buffalo, Nuun Hydration, NuGo Nutrition Bars and Honey Stinger for their partnership on this event.
