Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon, Inc. (P3R) proudly announced today that the Run for a Reason Charity Program presented by Bank of America raised a total of $1,408,217 during the 2018 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon fundraising season.
More than 2,500 charity runners participating in the various DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon race weekend events inspired over 19,644 charity donations for 115 local, national and global charities. Even more, these participants helped the program to reach not one but two major fundraising milestones in 2018.
“After surpassing $11 million in total donations since the program’s inception on March 8, 2018, it took participants only 82 days to raise another $1 million,” said Patrice Matamoros, P3R CEO and Race Director. “Thanks to the tens of thousands of runners who have raced for a greater good, more than $12 million has been raised for local, national and global causes since the Run for a Reason Charity Program launched in 2009.”
Bank of America was excited to serve as the title partner for the Run for a Reason Charity Program for the third year. Some of the charities represented through the program are impactful and meaningful but may not qualify for a Bank of America Charitable Foundation grant. By partnering with P3R, the nation’s second largest bank has an opportunity to help further the fundraising efforts and causes of even more charities.
“We believe that Bank of America plays an important role in helping to build thriving communities across the country,” said Brian Ludwick, Pittsburgh Market President at Bank of America. “We were proud to sponsor this year’s Run for a Reason Charity Program that connects passionate people to the issues that matter most in our community.”
Because the Run for a Reason Charity Program is fueled by deep community spirit, it has become one of the most successful marathon charity programs in the country. In fact, Crowdrise ranked the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon as the fifth most successful marathon charity program on their platform.
The charities who received the most donations this year include:
1. Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - $151,463
2. Humane Animal Rescue - $103,172
3. Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation - $92,888
4. American Cancer Society - $82,734
