10 Ways to Get Involved in the Pittsburgh Marathon as a Volunteer
Volunteers are the heart and SOLE of every P3R event! We rely on more than 6,000 incredible volunteers to help participants achieve their dreams, and the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events is no exception. Thanks to our Volunteer Program presented by Eaton, there are countless ways for YOU to get involved and be part of the excitement – we promise there’s something for everyone!
10 Ways to Get Involved as a Volunteer
1. Medical Tent Volunteer
Be part of the crucial team providing medical support to participants along the course. Your help ensures that runners stay safe and supported!
2. Amateur Radio Volunteer
Keep the communication flowing! Work alongside our event operations team to ensure everything runs smoothly.
3. Hill Runner Volunteer
Pittsburgh is famous for its hills, and you can help participants conquer them! Run alongside participants and provide motivation and cheer as they tackle tough elevation gains.
4. Medal Volunteer
Share in the unforgettable moment of triumph as you hand out medals at the finish line. It’s an experience you won’t forget— there won’t be a dry eye in sight!
5. Fluid Station Volunteer
Help keep participants stay hydrated and energized by filling and handing out fluid cups along the course. Your support makes a HUGE difference!
6. Cheer Group Volunteer
If you love to bring the energy, this one’s for you! Sign up to be part of a cheer group and help motivate participants with your positive energy and loud cheers.
7. Packet Pickup Volunteer
Be one of the first friendly faces participants see on race weekend! Hand out race bibs at the expo and help make their race weekend feel real. It’s a special moment!
8. Health and Fitness Expo Volunteer
Help participants navigate the excitement of the expo! Assist with answering questions and directing participants and attendees to where they need to go.
9. Finish Line Chute Volunteer
Crossing the finish line is thirsty work! Help runners refuel by handing out bananas, Eat ‘n Park Smiley Cookies, Turner’s chocolate milk, and more as they walk through the finish line chute.
10. Kids Marathon or Toddler Trot Volunteer
Be part of the fun for our youngest participants during the Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon and the Sheetz Pittsburgh Toddler Trot! This is a great opportunity to encourage kids as they take their first steps toward a lifetime of movement.
And That’s Just the Beginning!
The opportunities to volunteer don’t stop there. From gear check and runner services to countless other essential roles, there’s a spot for everyone to lend a hand. Volunteers are the backbone of Marathon Weekend, and we couldn’t do it without you!
It’s important to note that during event hours, every job is critical, and volunteers may be reassigned as needed to keep things running smoothly. General job descriptions will be provided at sign-up so you’ll know what to expect.
