5 Reasons Your Pet Should Do the Pet Walk

03.23.23

1. ‘Runner of STEEL’ is not a title exclusive to humans!

Any and all are encouraged to MOVE with us at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events. That includes our four-legged friends, too! Once your pet’s paws take to the start line, they’ve officially joined more than 40,000 participants to become a #RunnerofSTEEL!

2. All proceeds benefit Animal Friends.

If you enjoy walking to benefit great, local causes, this one's for you! The Pittsburgh Pet Walk goes the EXTRA mile to support all of the animals being cared for at Animal Friends. With your registration, you and your pet are bringing rescue animals closer to finding their furever home!

3. Level up your daily walks with the scenic views of Point State Park and enjoy the afternoon at the Finish Line Festival Powered by Cleveland Brothers.

Is your pet tired of passing the same trees, cars, and neighbors every morning? Give your pup the opportunity to explore a whole new walk route and community event! From all of the people watching to the gorgeous fountain and Pittsburgh skyline, Point State Park has an abundance of sights for your pup to see and enjoy throughout the course. PLUS - the Finish Line Festival Powered by Cleveland Brothers will be in full-swing for Family Day and you can check out the Pro Plan Performance Team's shows throughout the afternoon.

4. Your Pittsburgh pup can make a new friend or two along the one-mile walk.

As you make your way through the Pet Walk course, your pup will have no problem finding a four-legged walking buddy to keep them motivated. Who knows, you might discover a fellow pet owner who is looking for future pet playdates!

5. Warm up your leg muscles and extend your excitement going into Marathon Sunday!

If you are running in the Marathon, Half Marathon, or Marathon Relay on Sunday, May 7, the one-mile distance on Saturday will get your blood flowing and body moving with a relaxing walk alongside your beloved pet! It is the perfect way to feel well-prepared and recharged to run the next morning.
