For Nearly a Decade, Eaton Has Inspired Employees to MOVE through the FedEx Pittsburgh Corporate Challenge
The FedEx Pittsburgh Corporate Challenge is motivating employees across the region to lace up their running shoes and train for the 2022 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events. Eaton, who has participated in the program for nearly a decade, expects to have more than 50 employees train and participate in this year’s events.
“Eaton is very invested in supporting our employees through promoting their health, safety and overall well-being,” said Kaitlyn Mammay, Health Promotion Specialist at Eaton. “This is a wonderful way for our employees to get out and not only physically connect but mentally connect with the community.”
The program provides Eaton employees the motivation they need to take their fitness to the next level, whether it’s inspiration to run their first-ever race, tackle a new distance for the first time or improve their own personal record. Not only does the program get participants moving but it also is an opportunity for employees to connect outside of work and to network with others with similar interests.
"I love participating in the Corporate Challenge, as it helps keep me motivated and energized for my training runs,” said Antonia Wilson, an Eaton employee. “Being able to get to know more Eaton employees and connect outside of work is my favorite part!"
Eaton is committed to making sure all employees have the opportunity to MOVE and be part of the 2022 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events.
“Being a part of the Pittsburgh running community has made such a strong impact on my life, and I want to be able to empower as many people as I can to become part of that community,” Mammay said. “Therefore, my goal is to make running feel approachable and achievable to ALL employees, regardless of where they might be in their health and wellbeing journey. We tell our employees that we will be there every step of the way, the only thing we can't do is run the race for you!”
To support their employees, Eaton offers monthly group training runs and meetups, monthly training webinars hosted by experts, weekly email training tips, relay team matching and individualized coaching/training support. They also offer Eaton-branded gifts and a post-race celebration for all runners and volunteers.
"Being part of the Pittsburgh Corporate Challenge has been great to have the extra reminders and encouragement to stay dedicated to training as I prepare for my first half marathon,” said Ali Karsh, an Eaton employee. “As someone who has run casually for a long time, this is the first time I’m really learning about how to properly take care of my body through cross-training and stretching, and all of the training guidance from the Bird app around speed runs and what true recovery means has been incredibly helpful."
Mammay encourages other companies to join the program and use P3R as a resource to get employees motivated and inspired.
“Employees’ biggest hesitation comes from a lack of confidence in their own abilities, but P3R offers SO many free resources and support to organizations and their employees,” Mammay said. “You don't have to be an expert to be a great captain! Additionally, creating a strong sense of community amongst your runners will help foster a positive, supportive culture that will keep them motivated. Little things like a group messaging platform where runners can share their wins and challenges or a post-long run breakfast meetup can go a long way.”
