Explore the Allegheny County Parks
With over 200 miles of multi-use trails in the nine county parks, there are unique and welcoming experiences for beginner and experienced runners alike! Our shortest trails start at around one mile while our longest trail boasts an over 9-mile round trip. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been running for years or just started today – Allegheny County Parks has the right trail for you.
Great Trails to Get You Started
Waterfall Trail/Green Trail– Settlers Cabin Park
An utterly gorgeous trail that’s great for the whole family. This trail is filled with beautiful scenery and opportunities abound to see wildlife! Take in the serene imagery of the one-mile-long Waterfall Trail (out and back) or continue along the loop for a longer adventure with the two-mile-long Green Trail as it passes through beautiful stream bottoms and upland forest.
Lake Loop – North Park
One of the most popular trails in the whole county, this five-mile paved trail does exactly what the title suggests – it loops around Allegheny County’s largest lake, North Park Lake. Keep an eye out for the wildlife, and maybe you’ll get lucky enough to spot a beaver or a Bald Eagle! Feeling more adventurous? Try the 9.35-mile Red Loop at North Park, our longest trail!
Red Trail – Harrison Hills
Looking for a challenge? Take 5-mile loop around the perimeter of Harrison Hills Park on the Red Trail. You will be treated to cliff top views of the Allegheny River, beautiful ponds and wetlands, and cool shaded forests. Keep an eye out for fluttering wildlife as Harrison Hills Park is one of our best parks for birding year-round!
