New Walking Division Announced for 2022 UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon
PITTSBURGH, PA – P3R announced a new Walking Division for the 2022 UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon. Through this brand new division, walking division participants can walk the 13.1-mile course through Pittsburgh to earn their half marathon medal during the 2022 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events.
“Our mission is to inspire any and all to MOVE with us - we’re honored to be able to make it possible for everyone to MOVE at the UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “Walking a half marathon isn’t easy, but it is accessible and achievable for those who might not be ready to run 13.1 miles but want to experience a world-class event.”
P3R has shared an 8-week training plan for those interested in joining this year’s Walking Division. Participants in the division will need to maintain a minimum pace of 20 minutes per mile on the half marathon course, which follows the first 11 miles of the Pittsburgh Marathon course. After crossing the Birmingham Bridge, the courses split and Pittsburgh Half Marathon participants will return Downtown on 5th Avenue toward the finish line.
The UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon is one of the 20 largest half-marathons in the country and in 2019 attracted more than 14,000 participants. More than 40,000 are expected to register for all of the 2022 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events.
