Are you already registered as a charity runner and need some help fundraising? Or are you interested in becoming a charity runner but hesitant because you don’t know how to fundraise? Fundraising is not as overwhelming as you may think.
Here is a four-step fundraising method that will have you successfully fundraising in no time. It’s even easy to remember as an acronym - P.A.R.T.Y. Get ready to Prepare, Ask, Remind and say Thank You.
STEP 1: PREPARE
With any new project, it is important to spend some time prepping. The same goes for your fundraising journey. You need to prepare HOW you are going to fundraise, WHO you are going to ask to donate and WHY you are fundraising.
Part 1: HOW will you fundraise?
What are your hobbies and interests? How can you turn them into fundraisers? Plan out a fundraising calendar that breaks down your goals for each month and what your fundraising activities will be.
Part 2: WHO are your potential donors?
Family, friends and co-workers are the obvious choice, but there are also many other options. Think about your past donors, professional network, volunteer network, religious network, social media connections and where you spend money regularly. Your list is now much longer than you might have first expected!
Part 3: WHY are you fundraising?
Think about what your cause means to you and why you made the commitment to fundraise and run. What are your fundraising and running goals? How will your donors’ contributions make a difference for the organization you chose?
STEP 2: ASK
Start with the people you know best and make your ask personal. You’ll be surprised to find that people are more than happy to contribute. Write heartfelt and meaningful letters to send to your potential donors a couple of times throughout the fundraising season.
Don’t underestimate your potential donors generosity, but be careful not to scare them off either. Also be sure to update them on your progress and share the final results of both your running and fundraising.
STEP 3: REMIND
When you ASK, you may find that most of those potential donors need to be REMINDED that you asked for a donation. They say “I’ll visit your fundraising page when I get home” or they pledge to donate $10 for every mile run under 10 minutes but they just haven’t gotten around to it yet. This is why it is important to follow up with the people who have pledged to support you.
STEP 4: THANK YOU
The most important step is thanking your donors. You would not be able to participate in the event without their support and want them to continue to support you. Whether you create your own cards with a personal message or give them a shout out on social media, taking time to thank your donors will go a long way.
